Vesta. High Priestess

Vesta rules devotion, sexuality and health. Known as The Virgin and The Sister, Vesta represents the powerful woman who sees beyond the scope of herself. Her motivation is the goodness and fulfillment of a greater cause - an uplifting of the soul or the education of a generation. Mother Teresa and Princess Diana both demonstrated Vesta's concern for the masses.

This asteroid's position in your birth chart affects your attitude toward fitness and health. Vesta encourages us to see the long-term benefits of revering our bodies. Eating right, staying active, and enjoying treats and alcohol in moderation all fall under Vesta's domain. Jane Fonda is a good example of Vesta's principles: She not only pursues a fitness regimen for herself, she also teaches it to others through her mass produced fitness videos.

Vesta oversees Western and Eastern medicinal traditions, from antibiotics and aspirin to herbal remedies, homeopathy, and chamomile tea.

The Vesta woman is devoted, dedicated, and powerful. She is confident in her sexuality (or her decision not to be sexual).

Women with strong spiritual convictions, who believe deeply in their causes, often have a strong Vesta influence on their lives. These women know a lot about their areas of expertise and others often consult them for guidance. They remain focused, even become workaholics, but are so devoted to their work, they can't envision living any other way.

Vesta's association with both virginity and sexuality gives her a mysterious and powerful position in the community. Madonna represents a modern incarnation of this ambivalence, incorporating both the virgin and the whore into her public persona.

A woman who is selfish and self-centered reveals the shadow side of Vesta. In this dark side, the emphasis on sexuality may become extreme. Linda Lovelace and Gypsy Rose Lee are infamous examples of women living on the edge of the darkness. Women who use sexual promiscuity as a tool to control people also dwell in Vesta's dark side. Sex as a means to fulfillment may attract a Vesta woman who's insecure, who can't enjoy sex as a vital part of feeling whole.
